Your Childhood Is Dead With the Closing of Hoffman’s Playland
By now you’ve all heard the devastating news that Albany area staple Hoffman’s Playland is getting set to close this fall. Why? Because money, that’s why.
You never want to hear about a local business closing, but this one doesn’t really come as a shock to me. I have a feeling that Hoffman’s Playland is worth more to the owners sold than open for business. #sorryimnotsorry.
The fact of the matter is people are just not going to these places any more. That land the Hoffman’s is on is in a very valuable location. Your childhood is now officially dead.
I mean yeah, it sucks that it’s closing. I’m sure most of you reading this have fond memories of riding that stupid train, or your parents only going on the scrambler. Then you going on the scrambler after stuffing ice cream in your face and blowing chunks all over the place. Good times.
Such is life. Think about how many other things that are gone now that were around when you were a kid. I think of a few things right off the top of my head:
KB Toys
Caldor
Most Friendly’s
Ames
- Hoyts Cinemas
- Montgomery Wards
- Latham Circle Mall
- Ponderosa
The list goes on. I mean when you think about it, The Great Escape isn’t even really the Great Escape anymore. Do they even do that battle with the Sheriff still?
For some reason Spencer’s is still hanging around.
