Doctor Strange Will Not Get An Origin Movie
In the latest news from Marvel Studios, the highly anticipated Doctor Strange movie is coming, and it looks like they are jumping right into the action and skipping the back story.
As we gear up for Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) we are also getting ready for some new characters to emerge on both television and film. And yes, that includes Doctor Strange.
One of the more mysterious characters in the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange combines magic and mysticism rather than the typical super power types we’re used to. It will certainly be a different type of character and film, but if they were able to do it with Guardians of the Galaxy, they can do it with Doc.
Recently head writer Devin Faraci caught up with the press and had this to say:
So, for Dr. Strange they’ve had a script in-house forever. It is a pretty standard origin story for Doctor Strange. It’s got Baron Mordo as the bad guy. That’s all gone. Marvel’s new thing is no more origin stories. So, Dr. Strange movie no longer has an origin. It begins in medias res. It has Dr. Strange already established as the Sorcerer Supreme. It is a totally new script. Jon Spaihts is working totally new, On his own, without any of the previous stuff. Not even touching the previous script.
So the script has been ditched, and we can expect Doctor Strange to be already involved in whatever direction Marvel Studios is going.
Strange has been associated with a number groups within the Marvel Comics world, most notably The Defenders and the Illuminati. I should probably note that The Hulk was a member of The Defenders and Iron Man is a member of the Illuminati.
Also it’s probably some good information to include that Black Bolt is also a member of the Illuminati. For those of you who don’t know, Black Bolt is the leader of the Inhumans, which is also a rumored movie that is going to be tackled by Marvel. We tackled some of the Inhuman rumors in our latest Geek Show podcast, give it a listen for more information.
