It would be remiss for us to not take a moment to stop and think about what today means for not only us as a country, but individually as well. After the event many news reports likened this to other historical events that have changed us all. The assassinations of President Kennedy and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., man landing on the Moon for the first time to name a few. But the question asked, everyone knows the answer to. Where were you on September 11th?

I was home, on a short vacation with my then first wife. We had just learned that we were expecting a baby. My oldest daughter Terry Ellen. I had heard about it from a co-worker who messged me on instant messenger to turn on the TV right now. When I did, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The first tower had smoke billowing from it. You could see some flames and the news reports were calling this a horrible accident. No one knew at that point what was really happening. Then I saw the second plane hit. And I knew, just like I’m sure every one else did, this was no accident. Something was going on.

From there I was glued to the TV trying to get as much info as I could. I was transfixed. I was looking for some kind of answer to why. But we wouldn’t get that answer till some time later when we finally got the word that is was indeed a terrorist attack. Since then we have fought a war to try and reclaim some of the peace we had before this all happened. More lives have been lost and as to if we are any safer now, than back then, is still a matter for debate.

But one thing we should never forget, is that while this tragedy and cowardly attack bruised us, it never took away our resolve to be a beacon of freedom and hope to others around the world. We may not be perfect, we may have our problems and we may bicker among ourselves, I’ll still lay down money, we are still have the best game around.
