Starbucks Says “No” to Pregnant Woman
It’s a lawsuit waiting to happen…
In news this week Starbucks is receiving a lot of negative publicity after a store in North Phoenix refused to let an 8-month pregnant woman use the bathroom.
Obviously you hear about the stores, restaurants, and gas stations that require you to make a purchase prior to using the restroom but I have been in my share of various Starbucks and see people come in and use the restroom and then leave. So the question is why?
It doesn’t end there either. This woman, Ilana Scheinker, says she was denied multiple times – even after she said she would buy something. She says the urge to use the restroom hit her all of a sudden (of course – she’s 8 months pregnant!) so she told her husband that she was not allowed to use the bathroom. Her husband then went up and tried to buy something saying “charge me for anything.” The barista still refused and told the couple that if they don’t leave he was going to call the police.
The corporate people at Starbucks responded by saying:
We failed to meet this customer’s expectations of us, and we have apologized and are working to make it right. This experience is unacceptable and not indicative of the welcoming and respectful service we strive to offer our customers in our stores.
So did she get to use the restroom? Yes – but not at Starbucks. They went to a nearby Subway restaurant to use the bathroom.
Scheinker is now boycotting Starbucks and speaking out to mothers’ groups, hoping to prevent this from happening again. Let me just say this – you don’t piss off a pregnant woman…especially not a woman who’s due to give birth in 2 weeks!
Starbucks = FAIL.
