So the word has come that we will see a small glimpse of what Disney and J.J. Abrams has in store for us with the new Star Wars movie, but only select few will get to see it. Did Disney just screw up big time? Because it looks like they just screwed up big time to me.
J.J., Disney… you guys really messed this up. You should have made it available world wide, even if we had to wait a couple weeks. I get that Thanksgiving is one of the most popular movie going times. It’s a good way to get the word out. But, um, it’s Star Wars. The word is pretty much out there. I would think catering to the fans, would be the best way to really generate buzz. The only real way to make this better, is to release it online immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday. I mean like Friday, November 28th, 12:01 am.
Granted, it’s an 88 second teaser trailer but in only 30 select cities, in America? That’s it? In our modern world where content can be delivered in no time flat on the Internet? And the best you could come up with is 30 cities, just in the U.S.? Why are you guys pulling this tired old promotions crap on us? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, a lot of fans, are not happy about this. And I am one of them.
In the Geek world, Star Wars is our Moby Dick, Wuthering Heights and War and Peace, all rolled into one. OK, that sounds like a big exaggeration, but to us the Geeks, it’s not. We’ve been wanting to see something like this for a long time. We had accepted it would most likely never happen, but now, we have something to look forward to, Why do you feel the need to yank the fans’ chain?
Was this a huge mistake? Oh yes, by no doubt, but you will recover from it simply because in the past you always lived up to your promises and made good. And I really hope you do for this one, because you guys made a whopper mistake.
