Giants’ Rashad Jennings Appearing At 55th Annual Center for Disability Services Telethon
New York Giants running back, Rashad Jennings, will be the special guest at the 55th Annual Center for Disability Services Telethon here in Albany. The event will take place on Sunday, January 25th. Find out when Rashad will appear and we’ll speculate on who else may join!
Each year, the Albany Center for Disabilities holds a huge fundraiser – a seven-hour telethon, raising millions of dollars which go towards a great cause here in the Capital Region. In 2014, the telethon brought in $2,007,973 in donations. To help draw in a crowd, the annual event brings in athletes from the NY teams so sign autographs while you’re on hand to contribute to the fundraiser. Just announced for the 2015 event is the starting running back for the NY. Giants, Rashad Jennings.
Jennings will be signing from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the UHY Sports LineUp at the Holiday Inn Albany over on Wolf Road according to the center. In his first year with the Giants, Jennings tallied 639 yards on the ground, even with an injury during the season. His best game on the year was Week 3 in a win over Houston, where Jennings ran for 176 yards and a TD.
The Giants have been well represented at the telethon of late. Past guests include:
Andre Brown 2014
Martellus Bennett 2013
Hakeem Nicks 2012
Adam Koets 2011
Rich Seubert 2010
Steve Smith and Derek Ward 2009
Over the last decade plus, the telethon has also had many New York Yankees appear- sometimes, major names in the game. Previous pinstripers are:
Shawn Kelley 2014
Cody Eppley 2013
Joba Chamberlain 2012
David Robertson 2011
Brett Gardner 2010
Brian Bruney 2009
Shelly Duncan 2008
Scott Proctor 2007
Bubba Crosby 2006
Joe Girardi 2005
Jorge Posada 2004
Goose Gossage 2003
As a sports fan and even bigger Yankee fan, I can’t wait to see who is announced for the 2015 event. I love donating some money to a great organization and being able to meet a few of my favorite players. Time to speculate on who may represent the Yankees this year! Let’s go over a few players on the roster:
If the Giants went running back the last two years, perhaps the Yankees continue tradition of having a member of the bullpen appear, as they have from 2011-2014. In the ‘pen now is 2014 All-Star, Dellin Betances. A star in the making, not quite at that super star level that will not make public appearances. He’d be great to meet! Adam Warren and Chase Whitley are two young arms, both drafted by the Yankees that would make sense appearing. Not quite sure guys with huge, seven-figure contracts would appear. That leaves out guys like Mark Teixeria, Jacoby Ellsbury, and CC Sabathia. Brian McCann probably out. Brett Gardner has already stopped in. If a position player comes – how about the recently re-signed Chase Headley? He has a Gold Glove and was the NL RBI leader in 2012.
My top guesses for the Yankees’ representative at the 55th Annual Center for Disability Services Telethon: Adam Warren, Chase Whitley or Chase Headley. Good chance we’ll meet a Chase, no? We’ll find out soon!
