Why ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ Wasn’t So Great
If you’re like me, you were left scratching your head at the end of “The Hobbit” trilogy, and now we know why.
In a new feature from “The Battle of the Five Armies” extended edition, Peter Jackson and the rest of the crew from the films explain why the final installment of these much anticipated movies wasn’t as good as it could have been. As it turns out, Jackson and company were doing things on the fly. Considering that fact, it wasn’t so bad, but imagine how good it could have been is he had the proper amount of prep time?
One of the biggest problems was the fact that director Guillermo del Toro had to leave the project, leaving Jackson holding the reins. So you go from one vision to another, and no time in between. Jackson had years to prep for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and minutes for “Battle of the Five Armies.”
After seeing this, it makes sense that I was left wanting more out of “The Hobbit.” Let’s also not forget that while “The Hobbit” is a beloved story, it’s no where near as complex as “Lord of the Rings.” So there’s also that.
